Our Bear Management Allocation is in the
Great Lakes/Southern
Boreal Forest Transition Zone. This means we have a variety of
suitable
habitat and food for bear, including acorns and many different kinds of
berries. Our area is largely unpopulated crown land, and access
is
by old logging roads, suitable for 2 or 4WD trucks or ATV's. Our
fall bear season runs from late August to the end of September.
Hunts
run Saturday to Friday, with the last Friday night’s accommodation
included.
Our camp has a Bear Management Allocation consisting of
approximately
120 square kilometers - we are the only outfitter allowed to bait for
bear
within this allocation. Our baits are set up for both ground and tree
stands,
although we ask you to provide your own tree stand if you use
one.
For bow hunters we put the hunter about 15-25 yards from the bait for
gun, a maximum of 75 yards. We begin baiting 3 weeks prior to the
arrival of our first hunters, and the baits are checked and re-baited
every
2-3 days. During your hunt we check and re-bait your stand
every day.

Kegos is a small, owner-operated camp. We enjoy
the personal
contact with our hunters, and although we can’t guarantee a bear for
everyone
, we like our hunters to feel that they have at least been given
a fair chance at a bear. Also we are very conservation-minded and do
not
wish to harvest more bear than our area can sustain.Consequently,
our policy is to book a maximum of 5 hunters per week, and a maximum of
15 hunters per season.
What is our success rate? Because of the small
number of hunters
we have, statistics can be pretty meaningless, but in the past 6
years our success rate has varied from a low of 12 % to a high of 60%.
(Does not include bear seen but not shot at).
We hope that you will decide to try a bear hunt with us,
and we look
forward to welcoming you to our camp.
