heron wade around the shores while you fish, you are guraranteed

crested, barred tail; chicken-like in appearance and habits.
Viewing Opportunities:
Grouse are a very
slow bird, allowing someone on foot to get quite close. Most
often
seen on old logging roads near Kegos; short drive and walking required.

a loon, black, long neck and beak.

often on Chub
Lake, while fishing or during Sunday morning Pontoon Boat Cruises.

In spring, a
pair usually lands in a field across from camp. Throughout
summer, seen in fields in Kynoch, a nearby farming community.

Description: Water
bird. Head and neck
black with greenish gloss; body black with white checks; incomplete
white
band around neck; famous for beautiful, haunting calls often heard in
evenings
throughout camp.
Viewing Opportunities: Seen
throughout Chub
Lake, often seen from cabin windows; frequently seen while canoeing and
on pontoon boat cruises; can get quite close to loons if quiet.
